Dermatitis / Eczema
Dermatitis or eczema can be caused by contact with chemicals or dust if protective clothing is not provided. Causes of dermatitis include contact with coolants, oils, dyes, plants and fungi as well as frequent contact with water. Some of the professions thought to be most at risk of contracting work related dermatitis include factory workers, printers, hospital staff, manufacturing workers, kitchen workers and cleaners.

Occupational asthma
Prolonged exposure to dusts, fumes or gases may result in difficulty in breathing, coughing, wheezing and chest tightness. For some people this may include a release of histamine into the airways, this causes swelling and constriction of the muscles in the airways thus narrowing the air passages.

Silicosis
Silicosis is a respiratory disease caused by inhalation of silica dust, which leads to inflammation and scarring of the lung tissue. If the exposure to silica is intense then Silicosis may develop in a year or less, but it usually takes at least 10 or 15 years of exposure before symptoms develop.
Silica is a component of sand, so sand-blasters and glass workers may be constantly exposured to silica. Other workers at risk include: Quarrying and stone cutting, road and building construction, work with abrasives manufacturing and mining.

Emphysema
Emphysema can also be caused by prolonged exposure to dust, the inhaled dust settles in the lungs and damages them. The initial symptoms of emphysema are persistent cough, breathlessness and fatigue. This may progress to a stage where the sufferer is housebound and dependent upon oxygen apparatus.

Pneumoconiosis
Pneumoconiosis is caused by the inhalation of coal dust and occurs in 2 forms: simple and complicated (progressive massive fibrosis). The simple form is usually not disabling, but the complicated form often is.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway of ligament and bones at the base of the hand and houses the median nerve and tendons. Thickening from irritated tendons narrows the tunnel and causes the median nerve to be compressed.
People at most risk are usually those performing assembly work for example manufacturing, sewing, cleaning, and meat packing. Carpal tunnel syndrome is three times more common among assemblers than among data-entry personnel.
